Youtube sensation and homeless man Ted Williams rejected an offer from the Cleveland Cavaliers today that would have made him their public address announcer. He instead has chosen to take his talents to South Beach.
Williams, or the “Splendid Squater,” became an inspiration overnight thanks to a Youtube video and subsequent media explosion.
But instead of accepting the offer from the hometown Cavs, (Williams lives in Ohio), he has instead opted to take less money and work for the Miami Heat in a supporting role where he’ll just be doing the starting lineups.
“I wanted to win a championship,” Williams said. “And I felt that going to the Heat gave me the best chance to do that. Plus, South Beach sounds a helluva lot warmer than Cleveland, and as a homeless man that played a big factor for me.”
Cav’s owner Dan Gilbert was outraged by Williams’ decision.
“He’s gutless,” Gilbert said. “He’s betrayed the people of Cleveland, who had given him so little. I promise we will get a team of homeless people working for the Cav’s that makes this guy look tame by comparison.”
